About Annies

History

In Marlborough, New Zealand, "Annies" family has been growing quality produce for over 100 years.

The family purchased their property in 1898 and developed a business as an agricultural contractor and over the years the farm evolved from sheep and grain to vegetables, fruit and grape production with a small fruit and vegetable shop on the property.

The Annies business was born in 1986 after Graeme Giles bought his wife Ann a small dehydrator and she began to experiment with converting apples into dried fruit leathers. What the family did not require in the shop, Ann started selling and soon demand outstripped the capacity of the dehydrator.

The business was really under way when the couple invested in their first commercial drier and now years later under the "Annies" brand, Annies Marlborough Ltd produces a whole range of natural dried fruit and is branching out into a number of other natural food products.

The original fruit and vege shop has gone and has been replaced with the Annies Cafe and Retail Store right on State Highway One, just north of Blenheim.

Annies products are now sold throughout New Zealand and Australia and in parts of the USA, with demand growing from other countries.

Graeme and Annie Giles are the founders and still work in the business. Annie of course is the face that appears as the brand and on the product packaging.

Orchard

Originally most of the fruit required came from the owners orchard, but now the scale of Annies is such that fruit is purchased from all around New Zealand, but in the main from Marlborough and Nelson.
